Fortunately, Unfortunately is a game where people make up a story as they go along.
This is how it works.
There is a starter sentence (such as "A man walked down the street"). Then the next player comments "Unfortunately, [Something bad happens here to him]."
Then the next player comes along and says
"Fortunately, [Something good about him or something that happens to him that eliminates the unfortunate event].

If a player before you says one of the unfortunate/fortunate sentances, always respond with the opposite word.
Here's some examples...
WRONG:
Person 1: "Unfortunately that street was destroyed, so he sprained his ankle walking down it."
Person 2: "Unfortunately the man hit his head also"

Correct:
Person 1: "Unfortunately that street was destroyed, so he sprained his ankle walking down it."
Person 2: Fortunately, he had extreme healing powers so his ankle healed right away."

Also.... try not to end the story suddenly. Stuff like "He flew into a black hole and died' should be avoided.
Plus, try to keep Unfortunate or Fortunate events appropriate for young age.

Unfortunately the lightbulb sparked and set fire to a nearby piece of cloth that just so happened to be drenched in gasoline, setting fire to the whole building.

Fortunately the firefighters showed up and sprayed the building with water before anything got destroyed.

Unfortunately the firefighters were actually just dogs and what they considered "The whole building", was actually just a single room. Still impressive for a bunch of dog firefighters.

Unfortunately the milk was sour and it let off a poisonous stench throughout the building.

Fortunately a man selling air fresheners saw the issue, and gave a bunch to the house owner for free, clearing up the rancid smell.

Unfortunately, the man who sold the air freshener hadn't showered in weeks, rendering the air freshener useless.

Fortunately the stench from the air freshener guy smelled like blackberries, so he made up for the lost smell of the air fresheners.

Unfortunately, everyone hated the smell of blackberries, so the air freshener guy got beaten up.

Fortunately, the police were there and broke up the fight before anyone got hurt.
